Tregulova recalled that the building built in 1965-1987 on the Crimean Val “was designed to operate in 25-30 years, it has long been outlined for its constructive reserve and potential and needed not to overhaul, but in a serious reconstruction,” TASS reports.
At the same time, the GTG CEO noted that the new Tretyakov Gallery is not able to exhibit his huge collection of art of the 20th century and contemporary art, does not have a library and sufficient space for the implementation of educational programs.
According to Tregulova, the company of the OMA of the Netherlands architect Rem Kolkhas , which implements the reconstruction project, sets the task of “making a new Tretyakov Museum, which will primarily think about people, visitors, their needs, about the educational function of the museum,” where exhibitions, lectures and master classes could be conducted, to show immersive programs.
Rem Kolkhas said that he was going to reduce the “monolithic effect of the building”, removing the wall between the Central House of Artists and the New Tretyakov Gallery, “limiting the movement of visitors”, and install several escalators in the building so that it would be more convenient for visitors to move around the building.
“So far, we definitely cannot say what we leave specifically and what we remove. But the concept is that we want to remove the main problems of this building. He needs a new infrastructure, it must correspond to the 21st century and people of the 21st century, ”said the architect.
In addition, Tregulova explained that the Central House of Artists, which previously dedicated to the International Confederation of the Union of Artists (ISSC), will be combined with the building of the new Tretyakov Gallery and cross the state.
“Now the ISSC is in the process of liquidation , the courts continue to go, since the ISSC is appealing - apparently, this process will take a few more months, how much - no one can say. After that, the court decision will enter into force, and the property of the ISSC, which was previously the property of the Union of Artists of the USSR, will transfer to the property of the state with all subsequent decisions by decisions and actions, ”said the General Director of the GTG.
Before proceeding with the reconstruction project, she added, it was necessary to obtain the MKSX consent that the GTG began to work on the concept of reconstruction of the building as a whole, "and while this consent has not been received, we did not have the opportunity to sign an agreement with companies that are now working on this project."
Tregulova assured that the space of the Central House of Artists “in principle will retain its orientation”, which has developed historically. “There will be a restaurant, not at the bottom, but at the top, below there will be a large space for public events and there will be exhibition halls, including the largest exhibition space,” she said, clarifying that “the beginning of the reconstruction depends on the results of a continuous examination of the building and obtaining state funding for the reconstruction.”
