FSB announced the prevention of a terrorist attack in St. Petersburg

The Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) announced the prevention of a terrorist attack in St. Petersburg. Employees of the department detained a migrant from Central Asia, who planned to commit a terrorist attack in the city.

According to the press service of the FSB in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, the alleged terrorist was detained on Thursday, February 22 (TASS gives the message). The name of the detainee is not revealed, it is only known that this is a native of the Central Asian region.

The St. Petersburg department of the FSB claims that the migrant planned to commit a terrorist attack at transport infrastructure facilities and in places of mass accumulation of citizens. Currently, operational-search measures and investigative actions are being held, the press service of the department noted.

In December last year, the FSB reported on the detention of seven supporters of a terrorist group who planned to arrange a terrorist attack in the Kazan Cathedral in St. Petersburg. The detainees themselves did not admit their guilt and stated that they threw them weapons and explosives.

The Kremlin reported that the information about the terrorists received from the CIA. Russian President Vladimir Putin thanked the American intelligence services and personally US President Donald Trump. The press secretary of the head of the Russian state Dmitry Peskov called the transfer of the CIA data on the preparation of the attack in the Russian Federation by an exemplary example of cooperation between the United States and the Russian Federation in the fight against terrorism.

According to the director of the FSB, Alexander Bortnikov, last year in Russia, 18 large terrorist attacks were prevented in Russia. Putin instructed employees of special services to act during the detention of terrorists within the framework of the law, but in case of a threat to the life of the security forces, to eliminate the bandits.
