The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) disqualified Russian bobsledder Nadezhda Sergeeva, in whose doping test was found the banned drug trimetazidine.
The result of Sergeeva and her partner Anastasia Kocherzhova, who took 12th place at the Olympics in Pyeongchang, has been cancelled.
- Nadezhda Sergeeva's positive doping test became known on February 23. The athlete refused to open the control sample and left the Olympic village.
- The Russian Bobsleigh Federation said that the dose of the banned drug in Sergeeva's sample was "very low." A spokesperson for the organization remarked that it was a "heart drug" that is "commonly prescribed to older people"; Sergeyeva team doctors did not prescribe this medicine.
- Earlier, due to a positive doping test, Russian curlers Alexander Krushelnitsky and Anastasia Bryzgalova were stripped of their bronze medals. Meldonium was found in Krushelnytsky's sample. The Russian side admitted that the banned drug could have been mixed into his food.
- Anti-doping rule violations led to sanctions against the Russian team at the PyeongChang Olympics. Many leaders of the national team were not allowed to the Games, and "clean" athletes were not allowed to compete under the national flag.
