Perm opera is preparing the premiere of "Phaeton" Lully

In March, the Perm Opera and Ballet Theater will present to the premiere of the opera Jean-Batista Lully “Phaeton”-a joint production with the royal opera Versailles in cooperation with the Le Poème Harmonique ensemble.

According to the press service of the Perm Opera and Ballet Theater, a team of masters of the baroque theater is working on the play under the guidance of director Benjamin Lazar and Kider Le Poème Harmonique Vincent Destra.

The opera will be performed by the soloists of the Musicaeterna choir and French performers, as well as the consolidated orchestra from the musicians Le Poème Harmonique and the Musicaeterna orchestra.

In Perm, the premiere of Phaeton will be held on March 14, 15, 17 and 18, in Versailles - May 30 and from June 1 to 3.

For the first time, the opera "Feton" was represented in 1683 on the day of the arrival of King Louis XIV in Versailles. Libretto is based on the constant co -author of Lully - Philip Kino - laid one of Ovid’s “metamorphosis” plots: the story of the son of the sun god Feton, who almost killed the earth from pride and ambition and was severely punished by the gods.

“When we answered the invitation of the Perm opera, we chose this work, because, firstly, it reflects the political and historical events of the era, and secondly, because of the music that carries all the magic and the whole grace of the baroque style,” says Benjamen Lazar. -We believed that there would be some difference between the production in Versailles and the production in Perm, because we are still talking about different countries, but then we dwelled on the idea that the difference in perception does not depend on the country, but only on the eyes of the look. Therefore, in any case, the production will be perceived by each viewer in its own way, so we decided to completely preserve all the staged elements. ”

One of the features of the opera is an ancient pronunciation and a kind of gesture. The gesture in the baroque theater is an expression not only of emotions, but also of ideas, it seems to anticipate what the viewer will hear. Therefore, for several months, the artists of the choir and soloists were engaged in the masters in baroque plastic and the old French language, creating a gesture score and a detailed intonation drawing of the opera.

Viewers will be able to get acquainted with the specifics of baroque music, the basics of baroque plasticity and the director of Phaeton in the classroom.
