In Nizhny Novgorod, a representative of Yabloko was drowned out on live television when he said that “Putin needs to be changed”

The man intends to file a complaint with the election commission, and the TV channel is conducting an investigation.

Deputy Chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the Yabloko party Alexey Sadomovsky plans to file a complaint with the election commission of the Nizhny Novgorod region. The reason for this was the lack of sound during a live broadcast on the VremyaN TV channel, when a confidant of presidential candidate Grigory Yavlinsky said that “Putin and the government need to be changed.”

In a conversation with TJ, Sadomovsky said that the channel hosted a debate between proxies of Russian presidential candidates Grigory Yavlinsky and Boris Titov. After the broadcast, his colleagues began writing to him asking why during the conversation he never mentioned the name of Vladimir Putin. Sadomovsky found a recording of the program on the TV channel’s website, reviewed it and discovered that a small fragment of his speech had been drowned out.

The sound turned off for a few seconds during my speech. At that moment, when the sound was muffled, I said the phrase “that we need to change Putin and the government.” At the moment we will complain to the election commission of the Nizhny Novgorod region.

I was surprised that censorship is possible on live television. But the very fact of censorship is difficult to surprise me. When we record debates in the Nizhny Novgorod region, at any mention of Putin we are stopped and asked to record again without mentioning it. And from one of my broadcasts on the Bor [Bor is a city in the Nizhny Novgorod region] TV channel, they cut out the mention of the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Nikitin.

At the same time, the man emphasized that the plug somehow occurred either during the live broadcast or with a slight delay.

This was definitely not done afterwards, because those who watched the broadcast informed me that there was no sound. I admit that the broadcast could have been broadcast with a slight delay, during which pre-moderation could have taken place.

By the way, the NNTV television channel (one management with the VremyaN television channel) a week ago filed a complaint against one of Yavlinsky’s federal election videos with the Nizhny Novgorod region election commission. They didn't like the fact that Putin was mentioned there. The election commission, of course, was surprised and did not find any violations in the video. I believe that this zeal for censorship confirms the hypothesis that the sound was muffled deliberately.

Representatives of the VremyaN TV channel could neither confirm nor refute TJ’s accusation that the phrase “Putin must be changed” was suppressed on air. They emphasized that “a technical check is currently being carried out and all necessary work is underway.”
