In Sevastopol, trade union activist Ivan Markov was released from the temporary detention facility

The Sevastopol City Court upheld the appeal against the arrest of trade union activist Ivan Markov. Journalist Anton Naumlyuk wrote about this on Facebook.

Thus, the court overturned the decision of the Leninsky District Court, which arrested Markov for ten days under Art. 20.29 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (production and distribution of extremist materials) for publishing the leaflet “Orthodoxy or Death” in March 2013. The activist was released from the temporary detention facility.

As the journalist noted, the leaflet, which served as a reason for initiating an administrative case, has no connection in meaning with the slogan “Orthodoxy or Death,” which was recognized as extremist in 2011. Then the reason for this decision was the nationalistic publication of the slogan on the Russian Symbol website . In February 2013, the Novomoskovsk City Court of the Tula Region declared a leaflet with this slogan extremist.

Naumlyuk also said that Markov is a witness in the case of left-wing activist from Yevpatoriya Evgeniy Karakashev, accused under Articles 282 (inciting hatred or enmity) and 205.2 of the Criminal Code (justifying terrorism).

On March 1, people in uniform broke into Markov’s apartment shouting “Lie down, hands on your head!” and dragged the man away in an unknown direction.

• On the same day, searches took place at other left-wing activists from Crimea. In Sevastopol, security forces came to the apartment of Artem and Alena Vorobyov, who are members of the group “Anarchists of Sevastopol”. At that moment they were not at home; a seven-year-old child and their relatives were in the apartment.
• A search was also carried out in the house of activist Alexei Prisyazhnyuk: masked people with machine guns seized his equipment and took the man to the police department.
• Left activist Alexei Shestakovich spent the entire search on the floor, wearing only his underwear and handcuffs. At the end, the security forces put a bag over the activist’s head, in which he was suffocating, and transported him like that. After this, it became known that he was arrested for ten days.
• Other left-wing activists whose homes were also searched—Aleksey Prisyazhnyuk,Artem Vorobyov , and Igor Panyuta—were interrogated as witnesses in the case of Yevgeny Karakashev. Simferopol resident Dmitry Kisiev also became a witness in the Karakashev case.
• On February 2, Yevgeny Karakashev was arrested for two months. The reason for this was the video “Untitled,” published on VKontakte at the end of 2014, and a certain text published on the same social network along with the video “Last Interview of Primorye Partisans,” which was previously included in the Ministry of Justice’s register of extremist materials.
• Karakashev himself believes that the initiation of a criminal case against him and the subsequent arrest are related to his activist activities: the man opposed the development of a resort area near Yevpatoria in the vicinity of a salt lake.
