Activist Igor Stenin asked Lithuania asylum

The leader of the Russian Astrakhan organization Igor Stenin asked Lithuania asylum. It is reported by the "Caucasian Knot".

According to the publication, the Lithuanian authorities accepted the application for the provision of Stenin to refugee status. Now the issue will be considered by the Lithuanian government, before its decision, the activist is in the status of the applicant.

Earlier, Stenin left Russia with his wife and son, fearing pressure on loved ones from law enforcement officers.

On December 21, 2017, the Astrakhan Regional Court upheld the verdict against Stenin. In May, the case was terminated due to the lack of corpus delicti, however, the Prosecutor General’s Office filed a complaint against this decision, and the case was returned to the regional court.

The Soviet court of Astrakhan on May 16, 2016 sentenced the activist to two years in prison in a colony-settlement for public calls for extremist activities (part 2 of article 280 of the Criminal Code). The reason for the case was the repost on VKontakte articles on the topic of war in Ukraine. According to protection, Stenin was convicted of the commentary of another user under his record. The activist did not admit his guilt.
