Trump called the progress of the agreement with the DPRK, but announced the preservation of the sanctions regime

US President Donald Trump considers great progress reached with the DPRK an agreement on the start of work on denuclearization, but the sanctions will remain, TASS reports.

“Kim Jong -un spoke of denuclearization with representatives of South Korea, and not just about freezing [nuclear program]. In addition, no missile tests North Korea throughout this period,” Trump wrote on his microblog on Twitter.

Later, the White House stated that the United States would not agree to anything other than complete denuclearization of the DPRK. This was announced on Thursday by a representative of the American administration at a special briefing for journalists, noting that the possibility of conducting an audit "goes hand in hand with any acceptable agreement on irreversible denuclearization of North Korea."

“This is the result that the whole world awaits, as evidenced by all [the DPRK dedicated to the UN Security Council,” he said, clarifying that Trump was working closely with Japan and South Korea on the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

In his speech, a representative of the White House also clarified that Kim Jong -un handed President Trump through Chon Yona Oral, and not a written message with a proposal for a meeting.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump confirmed his readiness to meet with the head of the DPRK. He reported this by telephone to the Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe.

“During a telephone conversation, President Trump said that he was ready to meet with the chairman of Korea’s labor party Kim Jong -un,” said Yoshihide Suga, General Secretary of the Cabinet of Ministers of Japan. According to him, during the conversation, Trump emphasized that the progress in the situation around the DPRK was achieved due to the pressure that the international community provides for North Korea.

The situal on the Korean peninsula again aggravated at the end of November last year, when Pyongyang carried out the first missile launch in two and a half months. Then the DPRK experienced an intercontinental ballistic missile of a new type "Shzason-15". As a result of the launch, the North Korean side announced that the rocket could carry a nuclear warhead, and in the zone of its reach is the entire territory of the United States.

In early December, the White House administration announced the impossibility of conducting any negotiations with the DPRK until Pyongyang "fundamentally changed its behavior." Then, however, the Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, speaking at the Atlantic Council in Washington, emphasized that the United States is ready for negotiations with the DPRK on a nuclear problem without preliminary conditions and are not striving for war. The head of the State Department also noted that the United States is counting on the support of Russia in the implementation of sanctions: he discusses with the Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov a reduction in the number of North Koreans working in the Russian Federation.
