US President Donald Trump agreed to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. This was stated during a visit to Washington by National Security Adviser to the President of South Korea Chung Ui Yong, reports on Friday, March 9, Kommersant .
If the meeting takes place, it will be the first ever meeting between the current heads of the United States and the DPRK. Jung Ui-yong conveyed to Trump a statement from Pyongyang that North Korea would refrain from any nuclear missile tests and that Kim Jong-un was ready for permanent denuclearization. The national security adviser to the President of South Korea thanked Trump for his policy of maximum pressure on the DPRK.
“We will not repeat the mistakes of the past, the pressure on the DPRK will continue until the words of the North Korean leadership do not match its actions,” said Chung Ui Yong.
The meeting is to take place in May.
On March 5, a high-level delegation from South Korea visited the DPRK. The delegation was personally received by Kim Jong-un and offered to hold an inter-Korean summit of heads of state in April. The last time such an event took place was in 2007.
