Actors of the Lensoviet Theater called for the annulment of the order to dismiss Yury Butusov from the post of artistic director, according to his Facebook page .
Instead of being fired, the actors offered the administration of St. Petersburg to negotiate. The appeal says that Butusov “does not need protection”, since he is “protected by his talent and demand”, and the actors protect themselves. The appeal also recalls the numerous merits of the artistic director.
On March 6, Butusov, in an open letter, announced that he had left his post due to the fact that he could not come to an agreement on leadership issues with director Valery Gradkovsky. Butusov said that recently they both became the main ones in the theater, while Gradkovsky blocked all his proposals and rights. The artistic director wanted to change the charter of the theater, but the committee on culture did not allow it.
Yuri Butusov is a four-time winner of the Golden Mask awards. He has been working at the Lensoviet Theater since 1996, and in 2011 he became the chief director.
