The manufacturer of doping test containers Berlinger has announced its withdrawal from the market. WADA complained about him

The Swiss company Berlinger Special AG will cease production of doping test containers in the medium term, which it has been doing since the 1990s.

Over the past years, the company said in a statement, the number of doping manipulations has steadily increased, and the requirements for sample kits have changed. “This not only harms the sport, but also becomes inconsistent with our corporate values,” Berlinger said.

The production of doping test kits will be phased out gradually, the company stressed. During the transition period, Berlinger will continue to supply containers to customers to support anti-doping activities.

• Berlinger manufactures, among other things, the BEREG-KIT containers that were used to collect doping samples from Russian athletes. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announced that these containers could be opened without leaving any traces. In Russia, accusations of autopsy and substitution of doping samples of athletes are categorically denied.
• In January, WADA announced that it had received information that the new BEREG-KIT can be easily opened after being frozen. The Anti-Doping Agency launched an investigation, stressing that it will continue to cooperate with Berlinger until its completion.
• The BEREG-KIT containers of the previous model were used at the PyeongChang Olympics in February.
