
The Ministry of Justice included in the list of “undesirable” organizations two European NGOs involved in the election, the German European Platform for Democratic Elections (“European platform for democratic elections”) and the Lithuanian International Elections Study Center (International Center for Electoral Research). The basis was the decision made on the eve of one of the deputies of the Prosecutor General.
European Platform for Democratic Electes was founded in 2012. She calls her goal "The development and implementation of uniform standards and comparable observation methods in the new democracies of Europe." "EPDE will encourage, train and protect those experts and citizens who advocate transparent and equal suffrage, wherever it is in danger throughout Europe - whether in countries of the European Union, in the countries of the Eastern Partnership or in the Russian Federation," the NGO website says.
International Elections Study Center has been operating since 2013. He, as they say on his website, “analyzes political and election processes in the region of Eastern Europe.
Now in the list of "undesirable" organizations of 13 positions. The list has not expanded since July 2017, when it included the Black Sea Fund of Regional Cooperation .
Foreign and international NGOs recognized as "undesirable" do not have the right to transfer money to Russia, implement programs in the country and open their representative offices. They are also forbidden to create legal entities in Russia and participate in them. The distribution of information materials of such NGOs is persecuted.
In November last year, the legislation on "unwanted" organizations was tightened - the extrajudicial blocking of their sites was allowed .
For the leadership of the "undesirable" NGOs in Russia, criminal liability is provided, and for participation in the activities of such an organization - at first administrative, and with repeated involvement during the year - also criminal.
