Ukraine will boycott the Universiade in the Russian Federation, with naughty athletes "will be dealt with"

The Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Igor Zhdanov announced that Ukrainian athletes will miss the Winter Universiade, the holding of which is planned from March 2 to March 12, 2019 in Krasnoyarsk . With those athletes who will still go to the neighboring state, then "will be sorted out."

“Nobody will definitely go to the Universiade in Krasnoyarsk. Maybe someone will go under some neutral flag, but then we will deal with these athletes. We will decide with the World Boxing World Cup in 2019 in Sochi,” Zhdanov quoted TASS as saying in an interview with the Left Coast .

At the same time, the minister admitted that due to non -participation in the competitions in the future, Ukraine may have problems. In particular, with licenses for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

"We will think, decide, negotiate with international federations. There are some compromise mechanisms, I would like the international sports community to hear us," Zhdanov noted.

This week, the minister signed a decree on the ban on the participation of national teams of Ukraine in all sports in competitions and training fees held in the Russian Federation.

Zhdanov also said that the relevant ministry would not finance members of the national team who want to perform in Russia.

“I will not sign orders about their participation. These competitions will not be included in a single competitive plan, they will not be official. But if the athletes go, we will understand. If they go, then not for state funds, and this will not be members of the national team,” said the sports functionary.

In 2018, on the territory of Russia, in addition to the World Cup and the Biathlon World Cup , several more international competitions will be held: the European Wrestling Championship, the world hockey championship among juniors, the world boxing championship, as well as professional tennis tournaments.
