The legend of the teeth

Excerpts from the program.

Classics and modern prose writers wrote about teeth and toothache: Bokaccio, Hugo, Andersen, Chekhov, Bulgakov, Kataev. The Croatian writer Slavica Draculich has an essay about the bad teeth of compatriots. “Bad teeth,” she writes, “are directly related to bad dentists and bad food. But not only. The point is the specific culture of consciousness, the tendency not to see the individual in himself. We need a revolution of self -perception. This will not happen automatically as a result of political changes. This will need much more time than to achieve progress in economics and politics. We need to take responsibility for others and ourselves. ” This is what far -reaching conclusions the Draculich comes, discussing the teeth. In our Prague studio, writer Vitaly Vitaliev. He grew up in Kharkov. Until 1990, he lived in Moscow, collaborated with the literary newspaper, Crocodile and others. In the 90s he left for England. Since then he has been writing mainly in English. In “On top of the barriers” he shares his personal experience in the treatment of teeth in the USSR, England and Hungary:

- It is amazing how the character due to new teeth changes, improved self -esteem appears. You are no longer afraid to open your mouth. In my old photos, I am always with my mouth closed. Having passed through all the circles of a dentist hell, I began to think about it in philosophical. My life is the life of dental losses. My teeth are scattered throughout the globe. But the tooth is part of you. Most remained in the USSR, in Ukraine. In Australia, but a little: two or three. Then in England, and my last teeth remained in Budapest. It was good to sow them here: between the East and the West.
