A volunteer of the headquarters of presidential candidate Ksenia Sobchak was detained on March 16 in Cheboksary. On the same day, he was released from the police, having handed a summons obliging him to appear as a witness in a criminal case on March 21. This was reported to OVD-Info by the head of Sobchak's campaign headquarters in Cheboksary, Daria Komarova.
An earlier edition of Idel. Realii” reported that the headquarters volunteer Vasily Fedorov was detained by the police in the case of a theft committed in 2012.
“I am being held by the police. They say I committed theft in 2012. This is some kind of nonsense. I am a law-abiding citizen and could not do anything like that - neither today, nor yesterday, nor six years ago. Now I ask to issue a delivery protocol, but they do not do this either. I have suspicions that this is some kind of order related to my opposition activities.”
- the publication conveyed the words of the activist.
According to Idel. Realii”, the man was taken to police department No. 1 in the city of Cheboksary.
According to Komarova, who on the same day called the hotline of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the fact of detention and delivery of the activist to the department was not recorded anywhere. “Yesterday, after we made a fuss, Fedorov was released at three o’clock in the afternoon, they gave a summons to appear as a witness, but we have a suspicion that this was an act of pressure, because he is one of our active volunteers,” she told OVD-Info by phone. In addition, the man, along with participating in the election campaign, Sobchak helps at Navalny's headquarters, which, in her opinion, may also be related to the detention.
