Telegram lost to the FSB in the Supreme Court. Now it can be blocked

Telegram is under threat of blocking again. Pavel Durov's company lost to the FSB in the Supreme Court in a lawsuit in which it demanded the annulment of the order to disclose the encryption keys of users' correspondence. Immediately after that, Roskomnadzor notified the messenger of the need to send the keys to the FSB within 15 days - otherwise the department will have the right to demand the blocking of the messenger.

Information for decoding can in no way be classified as public information, in essence it is limited access information. It’s like a password on a phone that gives access to all the user’s correspondence,” Ramil Akhmetgaliev, representing Telegram, stressed at the trial. • Durov repeatedly said that he would not give the authorities the keys to decipher the correspondence. Specialists in digital cryptography noted that such a technical possibility does not exist.
• According to the Constitution, the right to privacy of correspondence can only be violated on the basis of a court decision.
