Media: Lavrov leaves the post of head of the Foreign Ministry

The head of the Foreign Ministry Sergei Lavrov will not be included in the new composition of the government, which should be formed in May after Vladimir Putin’s entry as president for the next term. It is reported by RTVI with reference to several unnamed sources in the foreign policy.

It is claimed, Lavrov, who is now 68 years old, had already expressed a desire to leave fasting several years ago, referring to fatigue. However, Putin convinced him to continue his work until the current presidential term would expire at the head of state.

On March 19, an interview with the press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova was published on RTVI. The official, among others, was asked about the possible resignation of Lavrov. Zakharov dodged from the answer.

There is no certainty regarding the successor of Lavrov, the publication says. His deputies are mentioned as such; More often than others - Alexander Grushko, who in 2012-2018 held the post of Permanent Representative of Russia under NATO . At the same time, the TV channel reports, there is a chance that the new minister will not be appointed from the current officials of the department. It is possible that one of the presidential administration will take the position.

After the resignation, Lavrov, the familiar minister, noted RTVI, would most likely take a certain formal position, for example in the Russian Council of Ministers.

The post of head of the Foreign Ministry Lavrov was appointed in March 2004. Before that, he was 10 years in Russia at the UN.
