What's happened
While Facebook is shaking, Amazon is tearing up - last night, Jeff Bezos' company for the first time outperformed Google's parent company Alphabet in capitalization.
Details
- With a value of $768 billion, Amazon has become the second most valuable company in the world after Apple ($889 billion).
- Amazon bridged the $200 billion price gap with Alphabet (less than it separates it from Apple) in just 2 months. Apple itself is unsuccessfully trying to be the first in history to reach the $1 trillion mark.
- Initially, the business interests of Google and Amazon did not intersect. But now they are increasingly becoming direct competitors: for example, in the field of cloud services and all kinds of smart home devices.
- Sometimes buyers suffer from this: Amazon recently stopped selling some of Google's Nest gadgets - thermostats, cameras, apartment security systems. Google retaliated by turning off YouTube on Amazon devices, including the Fire TV.
What do I get from this?
Bloomberg explains the growth of Amazon's capitalization with the optimism of investors: they believe in the company's success in new markets, in particular, in the field of grocery delivery. If you want to buy Bezos stock but don't know how, click here .
