Director Sergei Zhenovach will become the artistic director of the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater

Update. Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky confirmed the appointment of Sergei Zhenovach.

Sergei Zhenovach, director and artistic director of the Moscow Theater Art Studio, will be appointed artistic director of the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater. This is reported by "Kommersant" without reference to sources.

The information that Zhenovach will head the Moscow Art Theater was also confirmed by two Dozhd sources close to the theater management.

Zhenovach himself has not yet commented on the information about his possible appointment.

• Actor and director Oleg Tabakov died on March 12 after a long illness; he was 82 years old. Tabakov has been artistic director of the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater since 2000.
• Sergei Zhenovach worked as a director at the Man-Studio Theatre, the Theater on Malaya Bronnaya, in 2005 he founded the Theatrical Art Studio and became its artistic director. He also teaches at GITIS, where he heads the Department of Drama Directing. Honored Art Worker of the Russian Federation, winner of several theatrical awards, including the Golden Mask.
