In the south-east of the Moscow region, protesters against a waste incineration plant blocked a federal highway

Residents of the village of Stepanshino in the Voskresensky district of the Moscow region, protesting against the construction of a waste incineration plant, blocked the M5 federal highway for 40 minutes, village head Vladimir Silin told Mediazona.

He says that the police came to the protesters, who, however, did not disperse the protest. The security forces asked local residents to let cars through little by little, and they agreed.

“We understand, we are motorists ourselves, we just want to be heard,” Silin noted. However, according to the headman, one of the protesters named Kholkin had his phone taken away by one of the police. Now he can't be reached by phone.

Residents of Stepanshchino have been opposing the construction of a waste incineration plant since at least November 2017. Silin says that a road has already been built to it, and the plant will be located 850 meters from the village.
