Residents of the village of Stepanshchino in the Voskresensky district of the Moscow region, protesting against the construction of a waste incineration plant, blocked the M5 federal highway, Mediazona reports on Saturday, March 31 .
The highway was closed for 40 minutes. According to the headman of the village, Vladimir Silin, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs came to the protesters. However, they did not break up the action and only asked to let cars through a little. The protesters agreed, because "they themselves are motorists who only want to be heard."
The waste incineration plant will stand 850 meters from Stepanshchino. Local residents have been protesting against its construction since 2017.
