The Legislative Assembly of the Sverdlovsk region in the first reading adopted a law on the abolition of direct elections of the mayor of Yekaterinburg, reports 66.ru.

For the initiative proposed by Governor Evgeny Kuyvashev, 42 members of the Jacket of 50 voted, four deputies opposed. The document was adopted at once in three readings.

For the entry of the law, Kuyvashev will have to sign it.

The head of the city, Evgeny Roizman, opposed the regional parliament against the cancellation of the mayor’s elections. “If you now accept this law, it will be perceived as a doubt about the mental abilities of the inhabitants of Yekaterinburg, as a distrust of the residents of Yekaterinburg and as an insult to the inhabitants of Yekaterinburg,” Znak.com quotes the mayor.

According to new amendments to the law on the election of local authorities in the region, the mayor of Yekaterinburg will be elected a competitive commission, half of the members of which are appointed by the governor’s administration, and the other half is the city Duma.

At the same time, the head of the city is returning the powers of the head of the city administration. Since 2010, in Yekaterinburg, the head of the municipality, elected in direct elections, was the chairman of the City Duma and did not have managerial powers. The head of the administration was elected by a competitive commission of six representatives of the City Duma and three members of the Legislative Assembly.

On March 29, the relevant committee of the Legislative Assembly approved the bill Kuyvashev.

It was also planned to consider the alternative bill-communist Vyacheslav Vegner, which provided for the preservation of direct elections and the establishment of the mayor of managerial powers, but the deputy before the meeting of the Legislative Assembly revoked his initiative.

The day before, several thousand residents of the city reached the agreed rally against the cancellation of the mayor’s elections in the defense square. Roizman, local politicians and social activists, as well as a number of guests from Moscow, spoke out the rally: the State Duma deputy from United Russia Andrei Alshevskikh, the functionary of the Progress Party Leonid Volkov, the deputy head of the Echo of Moscow, Tatyana Felgenhauer, the party function of December 5, Julia Galyamin, ex-deputy of the State Duma, co-founder of the party. Dmitry Gudkov, a famous playwright and film director, formerly a resident of Yekaterinburg Vasily Sigarev. In the rally resolution, protesters demanded that the Legislative Assembly not adopt the law on the cancellation of the elections, and also promised to achieve the resignation of the governor Kuyvashev.

Roizman - the founder of the City without drugs, nominated by the Party of Mikhail Prokhorov "Civil Platform" - won the mayor’s elections in 2013 , gaining 33.31 percent of voters. Unicorn Yakov Silin, Deputy Kuyvashev, took second place from 29.71 percent of the vote.

In 2012, shortly after the appointment of Kuyvashev by the governor, a conflict began between him and Roizman. A few days after the mayor’s election , Roizman suggested Kuyvashev to “reset the situation” ; Officials shook hands. However, the friction between the mayor and the governor continues to the bottom.
