The court arrested residents of Tatarstan accused of participating in the Tablighi Jamaat organization

The Soviet District Court of Kazan arrested Marat Nazmiev and Tagir Salimov on charges of participating in the Tablighi Jamaat organization. It is reported by "TASS" with reference to the press service of the court.

Both are charged with organizing the activities of an extremist association and recruiting its new members (parts 1 and 2 of article 282.2 of the Criminal Code).

The investigation believes that Nazmiyev and Salimov organized meetings where they read religious literature and discussed plans to spread their ideology.

Both were taken into custody until May 15.

• The international religious organization Tablighi Jamaat was recognized as extremist in Russia in 2009. According to the SOVA center, this ban is unlawful, since the association is engaged in the propaganda of Islam and has not been seen in any calls for violence.
