Former governor of the Kemerovo region Aman Tuleyev received a mandate as a deputy of the regional council, secretary of the regional election commission Mikhail Pimenov told Kommersant-Sibir. This information was confirmed to Vedomosti by the deputy chairman of the election commission, Victoria Shakhmatova. Tuleyev, who headed the regional list of United Russia, became a deputy instead of Wang Wai-Chen, who resigned. The decision to transfer the mandate was made at a meeting at the election commission on April 3.

According to Kommersant, Tuleyev may even become speaker of the regional parliament. Next week, at the next session, the chairman of the regional council of people's deputies, Alexei Sinitsyn, will resign, the publication reports. A Vedomosti source close to the Kremlin also confirmed that Tuleyev could take the place of speaker. According to the interlocutor, now the scenario involves Sinitsyn moving to the Federation Council - there he can replace the current representative of the Kemerovo regional council Sergei Shatirov.

On April 1, Tuleyev, who led the Kemerovo region for more than 20 years, left the post of governor of his own free will. In a video message to Kemerovo residents, Tuleyev called his decision conscious and the only correct one, because “it is morally impossible to work with such a heavy burden as governor.” President Vladimir Putin, in a telephone conversation, thanked Tuleyev for his many years of work.

Vice-Governor Sergei Tsivilev, who moved to this position in early March from the post of general director of the Kolmar coal company, has been appointed acting head of the region.

On March 25, a fire occurred in the Zimnyaya Vishnya shopping and entertainment center in the center of Kemerovo, in which 64 people died. "I did everything I could. Met with the families of the victims. Tried to resolve issues regarding assistance. Once again I offer my deepest condolences,” Tuleyev said. Tsivilev, in his video message, promised to achieve the strictest punishment for all those responsible for the fire.

After the fire, a spontaneous rally was held near the administration of the Kemerovo region, the participants of which also demanded the resignation of Tuleyev. Tuleyev himself did not come out to those gathered in the square. During the rally, he was in a meeting with Putin. The governor of Kuzbass told the president that the opposition had gathered under the windows of the administration. “These are not relatives of the victims at all, these are generally those who are constantly causing trouble,” he said about the protesters. Tuleyev also apologized to Putin for the fire: “I apologize to you personally for what happened on our territory.”
