Cambridge Analytica could have accessed the data of 87 million Facebook users, said the social network's chief technology officer Mike Schroepfer. Earlier it was reported that the data breach affected 50 million users.

Facebook said most of the users whose data Cambridge Analytica may have collected are in the United States.

The company also said that in the future it will let Facebook users know if Cambridge Analytica has accessed their personal data.

• British and American media in March published investigations into Cambridge Analytica, which collected data from Facebook users to use in political advertising. Initially, it was reported that the company had access to the information of 50 million users.
• Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has acknowledged the data breach. According to him, the company asked Cambridge Analytica to delete the received data back in 2015, but was not convinced that this requirement was met.
