Official representatives of the Denmark authorities are likely to refuse a trip to the World Cup in Russia, reports the DR NYHEDER portal.
Members of the royal family and other government officials intend to join the diplomatic boycott declared by the UK and Iceland after the poisoning of the ex-spy of the Russian Federation Sergey Skripal in Salisbury.
As the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Michael Aastrape Jensen, noted, this step will not affect the participation of the national team in the tournament.
“It will be extremely difficult for officials of Denmark to go to Russia for this holiday of football. I do not think that we should talk about the refusal from the national team, but everyone else should stay at home and watch TV,” the diplomat said.
Earlier, the Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel noted that Germany and Europe as a whole do not plan to boycott the World Cup.
However, the possibility of diplomatic boycott was considered by officials of Sweden, Iceland, Denmark and Poland. At the same time, it was not about the boycott of the mundial by the players of these countries.
