Police: a terrorist attack on the half marathon in Berlin is prevented

Six people were detained, including the main suspect who intended to attack athletes and spectators with two knives. It is noted that he was a friend of the native of Tunisia Anisa Amri, who on December 19, 2016 deliberately crashed into a crowd of visitors to the Christmas market. 11 people died from the collision; Earlier, in order to hide the truck, Amri shot his driver - a trucker from Poland. 48 market visitors were injured. Amri was put on the international wanted list and a few days later died in Milan in a shootout with the Italian police.

According to law enforcement officers, a suspect of preparing an attack on the half marathon wanted to avenge Amri's death with his action.

It is also noted that the terrorist has long been under supervision, so there was no immediate danger to participants and spectators of Sunday Berlin competitions.
