
The American company Leap Motion, specializing in the development of gesture-controlled interfaces, showed an early prototype of augmented reality glasses using a proprietary hand movement tracking system.
According to The Verge , the project, called North Star, is a massive, unusually shaped pair of glasses that the company says could cost less than $100 once mass produced. According to the description, the device is equipped with two 3.5-inch LCD displays with a resolution of 1600*1440 pixels each. These displays provide a field of view of 95 degrees vertically and 70 degrees horizontally - larger than any existing augmented reality headset. The built-in sensor is located in the user's forehead and tracks the movements of his hands.

As the developers emphasize, the device only demonstrates the capabilities of the developed Leap Motion, and we are not talking about creating a commercial version of the glasses by the company itself or third-party manufacturers. Instead, Leap Motion plans to release the gadget's specifications and software for it under an open license.
The Verge draws attention to the importance of hand tracking technology for augmented reality devices and notes that Leap Motion glasses, judging by published examples, are capable of recording the movements of each finger individually, which similar devices cannot yet boast of.
