US President Donald Trump has begun setting the stage for a possible military strike against the forces of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in response to the alleged chemical attack in Douma. France and Great Britain can join the USA.
According to the Wall Street Journal , at least one American destroyer has already headed for the Syrian coast. Reuters reports that Washington is considering a "multinational military response." So Trump spoke twice on the phone with French President Emmanuel Macron in the last 24 hours.
Agency sources also named the UK as a potential partner in the US military operation.
In Russia, the chemical attack in the Syrian city of Douma is considered staged. This, in particular, was stated by the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Vasily Nebenzya.
“After the liberation of the Duma from the militants, Russian specialists in radiological, chemical and biological protection were sent there to collect data. They took soil samples, which showed the absence of nerve agents and chlorine-containing substances, interviewed local residents and militants who had stopped resisting, ” Interfax quotes the permanent representative .
Nebenzya said that no victims with symptoms of exposure to poisonous substances such as sarin and chlorine were admitted to the local hospital, and no bodies of the dead were found.
The Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN stressed that on April 8, the Syrian military near the city of Douma discovered a makeshift workshop for the manufacture of chemical munitions.
