Meeting with the ambassador of Israel to the HRC

In a meeting with Harry Koren, the ambassador of Israel in Russia, 4 members of the HRC took part: M. Fedotov, Y. Lantratov, M. Bolshakov and I.

Maria Bolshakova admitted that she envies Israel, that he has such an army, to the service of which all the youth seeks. The ambassador said that hazing is occasionally in the Israeli army. But he, although he served in the army for 6 years, has a positive service experience. He himself was brought up in a boarding school, when he was 14 years old, they had a military-reserve in the boarding school, who had a strong effect on him. But Mr. Mr. Koren himself against the militarization of the school and work with youth.

Mikhail Fedotov drew attention to the decrease in the last years of manifestations of anti -Semitism in Russia. I confirmed this: in my constituency, 3 churches, 2 mosques and a synagogue stand nearby, but I have not encountered the manifestations of anti -Semitism for about 15 years, I saw at the very beginning of the century by the extreme anti -Semitic inscription near the synagogue.

The ambassador supported the Russian position in the OSCE that, along with Islamophobia, Christianophobia, it is necessary to define anti -Semitism.

He spoke about the events held by the embassy on April 11–12, when the Holocaust Day is celebrated.

I asked Mr. Ambassador to present us with information about how Israeli prisons function, as well as how the national preventive mechanism works in Israel, since we are also working on its creation in Russia. Harry Koren promised to convey the necessary materials about Shabas (Prison of Israeli) and the Israeli NPM.

Mr. Koren spoke about cases when double citizenship boys who served Israeli defense in the army come to Russia, where they are trying to prosecute them for evasion in the Russian army. Now an agreement will be concluded between Russia and Israel, which will exclude a double call.
