Four years ago, on April 12, 2014, the confrontation began in Sloviansk, which became the first battle of the war in Donbass. A group of Russian special forces led by retired FSB special forces colonel Igor Strelkov (Girkin) occupied the important transport hub of Slavyansk, from where it was supposed to organize an attack on Dnepropetrovsk.
April 14 acting President of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov issued a decree ordering "to put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine dated April 13, 2014 "On urgent measures to overcome the terrorist threat and preserve the territorial integrity of Ukraine."
