The Moscow City Court upheld the prison term of Alexey Ulyukaev

The Moscow City Court upheld the term of imprisonment of Alexei Ulyukaev, who was sentenced to eight years in a strict regime colony in the case of a bribe. This is reported by a Meduza correspondent from the courtroom.

The judges decided to exclude from the sentence the prohibition to hold public office. The rest of the sentence was left unchanged.

Ulyukaev's defense intends to appeal against the decision of the Moscow City Court.

• In December 2017, former Russian Economic Development Minister Alexei Ulyukaev was convicted on charges of accepting a bribe from Igor Sechin, the head of Rosneft. He was sentenced to eight years in prison and a fine of 130 million rubles.
• Ulyukayev claims he was the victim of a provocation by Sechin and FSB general Oleg Feoktistov, the company's former head of security. Their testimony formed the basis of the verdict.
• Igor Sechin ignored four subpoenas during the trial in the first instance, but on April 12 he came to the appeal, where he testified behind closed doors. He later explained that for him, participation in the process was "a matter of honor."
