After a rally against the Yadrovo landfill in Volokolamsk, the car of Left Front activists was stopped by traffic police officers. As traffic coordinator Sergei Udaltsov writes on Twitter, traffic police officers claim that the driver is under the influence of drugs.
In a conversation with OVD-Info, Udaltsov clarified that Vladislav Kharitonov, Ilya Getman, Rodion Kabanadze, Vadim Vasev and Alexander Vasiliev were detained.
On the way to the rally, one of the activists’ cars was also stopped by traffic police officers, Udaltsov told Ekho Moskvy. The employees claimed that they had information that the car contained “prohibited items for the preparation of an act of an extremist nature.”
Today, protests against landfills are taking place in nine cities in the Moscow region. Rallies were coordinated in Verpukhov, Volokolamsk, Klin, Dmitrov, Krasnoarmeysk, Sergiev Posad and in several microdistricts of Balashikha: Zheleznodorozhny, Kuchino and Torbeevo.
In Volokolamsk, local residents demand the closure of the Yadrovo landfill. According to the Ministry of Health of the Moscow Region, from March 21 to March 29 alone, more than 500 residents of Volokolamsk sought medical help due to emissions at the landfill, 418 of them were children. At the same time, the Ministry of Emergency Situations found no reason to introduce a state of emergency in the Volokolamsk region.
