Rallies against landfills were held in nine cities of the Moscow region

Protests against landfills took place in Volokolamsk, Balashikha, Dmitrov, Klin, Kolomna, Krasnoarmeysk, Sergiev Posad, Serpukhov and Shatura.

Two actions took place in Volokolamsk - at the monument to heroic sappers and at the Yadrovo waste disposal site. According to estimates Interfax , about 500 people attended each rally. The first action, as reported by RBC, was attended by the head of the administration of the governor of the Moscow region, Mikhail Kuznetsov. He apologized to local residents for the fact that the Yadrovo landfill “has caused them inconvenience in recent months.”

“I’m very ashamed that this happened,” Kuznetsov said.

After the protests in Volokolamsk, were detained five Left Front activists . Traffic police officers stopped their car under the pretext that the driver was under the influence of drugs. After this, all the activists, accompanied by police, were taken to Krasnogorsk for a medical examination.

In Serpukhov, a rally against the closure of the Lesnaya household waste landfill was held in the village of Bolshevik. According to Interfax estimates, more than two thousand people took part in the action. Before this rally, criminal investigation officers detained Left Bloc activist Stanislav Kiryushkin, who took an “active part” in organizing the action. OVD-Info, with reference to members of the unregistered Revolutionary Workers' Party, reports that in the morning activist Sergei Stoychenko was also detained in Serpukhov.

Residents of the Moscow region have been demanding the closure of landfills for several months. On April 11, the Arbitration Court of the Moscow Region decided to close the Serpukhov landfill "Lesnaya", but the head of the local administration, Alexander Shestun, is confident that the court of second instance will cancel this decision after the rally.

In March, due to emissions from the Yadrovo landfill in Volokolamsk, more than 500 local residents sought medical help over the course of eight days , 418 of them were children. The authorities did not declare a state of emergency and completely close the landfill. They promised that from April 14 they would stop bringing garbage to the old part of the landfill, but then the waste would go to the new part of the landfill.
