Five years ago, on April 15, 2013, two explosions occurred in the spectator area at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, killing three people and injuring more than 280 people. The terrorist attack was carried out by Chechen immigrants, the Tsarnaev brothers, 26-year-old Tamerlane and 19-year-old Dzhokhar. Tamerlan died in a shootout with the police, and Dzhokhar, who shot the policeman, was wounded and arrested.
The Tsarnaev brothers are Islamic extremists, but their connection with any international organizations has not been established. In 2015, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was sentenced to death by lethal injection. The sentence has not yet been carried out.
