Five children were detained in Grozny for blocking the road to wedding processions and demanding money

In the center of Grozny, on Minutka Square, five children were detained for blocking the road to wedding processions in order to receive a cash reward. As a representative of the Republic's Ministry of Internal Affairs told the Caucasian Knot, this is a long-standing Chechen wedding custom.

The incident occurred on April 14. The children were taken to the police station, where they had an explanatory conversation with them in the presence of their parents, and then were released.

“They were engaged in this ‘trade’ at the busiest intersection of the highway, which not only created an emergency situation on the road, but also posed a serious danger to the children themselves,” said a representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

As the Caucasian Knot writes, blocking the road in front of wedding processions is a long-standing Chechen tradition. Usually children and teenagers block the road: when they see wedding cars, they block the route with branches, boards and old car tires. After this, according to tradition, the children demand money. The Ministry of Internal Affairs insists that this custom leads to road accidents and is dangerous, first of all, for the children themselves.
