Tigran Amasyan will perform in St. Petersburg

On May 3, a concert of a jazz pianist from Armenia Tigran Amasyan will be held in St. Petersburg.

On the stage of the “Concert Hall near Finland” he will present his new album “For Gyumri” , which was released in February 2018.

The record on which five compositions are recorded was a continuation of the album “An Ancient Observer” . According to the musician himself, these two albums are “songs of musical observations of the world in which we live, and the whole story that we keep in ourselves.” The new album is named after the hometown of Tigran Amasyan - Gyumri, in which he was born in 1987.

According to the organizers of the concert, Tigran Amasyan is one of the few young jazz musicians from the countries of the former USSR. He mainly performs his own works, which feels the influence of the Armenian folk tradition, as well as compositions in a variety of genres-from jazz, World Music and progressive rock to minimalism.

Tigran Amasyan recorded his first album at the age of 17, in 2011 his fourth album, released on Verve label, won the prestigious French Victoires du Jazz Prize. The musician became the winner and winner of many international jazz contests, including the Teleonius Monk Piano competition in Los Angeles, the Jazz pianists contest in Montre, the Jazz à Juan Révélats contest in Juan-Le-Peny, the Jazz Piano competition in Monaco. In 2016, he was recognized as the best arranger of the year according to Echo Jazz Awards .
