Roskomnadzor blocked 0.4% of IP addresses on the Internet

Roskomnadzor (RKN) has blocked more than 18 million IP addresses, according to the official registry of the service, which was analyzed by the website 2018.schors.spb.ru .

Roskomnadzor began blocking Telegram on Monday 16 April. Since then, the agency has been continuously blocking IP addresses used by the messenger. Since the messenger was constantly moving to new IP addresses, the list of blocked resources is growing rapidly. Because of this, other resources also had access problems , including Viber.

According to TGStat.ru , on the day Telegram was blocked, the number of views in 40,000 Russian-language channels increased by a total of 30 million (which is about 17% more than the average), and the total increase in subscribers across all channels was 270,000. These figures they say that the blocking did not affect the size of the audience to which the messenger was available on Monday, says Yuri Kizhikin, owner of the TGStat.ru analytics service.

Durov confirmed this on Tuesday afternoon. He published a post on Telegram, in which he said that the messenger did not record a large reduction in audience coverage. According to the founder of Telegram, this became possible due to the fact that Russians are actively using VPN and proxy services to bypass blocking. Durov also thanked Apple, Google, Amazon, Microsoft for not supporting "political censorship" and promised to spend millions of dollars on grants to those who would develop proxy servers and VPNs.

The answer to the question whether Russia will have its own sovereign Internet or whether it will still be the same as in Western countries depends on whether the Russian authorities will be able to block Telegram.
