In Kolomna, near Moscow, police detained eight participants in the protest against the Volovichi landfill. Activist Irina Naletova reported this to Mediazona.
As Naletova said, the action against the landfill has been going on for 26 days. All this time, activists stand at the pedestrian crossing in the village of Pervomaisky and do not allow trucks with garbage to enter the landfill. As Naletova clarified, the activists agreed with the authorities that they would allow trucks with garbage from Kolomna to enter the landfill only when the dumping of the landfill body was completed.
Despite the agreement, today new trucks went to the landfill, and a traffic controller was stationed at the pedestrian crossing. The police began to detain people who tried to block the trucks' path to the landfill.
In addition, the police detained a member of the initiative group, Vyacheslav Egorov. According to Naletova, security forces, under the pretext of checking documents, stopped the car in which Egorov was traveling and took him to the department. Now eight people are in the police department in the Kolomna district of Kolychevo.
Egorov told OVD-Info that he was detained while driving home after the protest. “The police stopped the car and verbally presented me with Article 20.2 (Article 20.2 of the Administrative Code - MZ),” he said.
The group “NO to the Kolomna landfill” consists of more than 20 thousand people; they oppose the Volovichi landfill “with criminal violations of operating rules,” as well as the waste incineration plant in the village of Svistyagino. The landfill is located five kilometers from Kolomna.
On the website of the initiative group “Our city is not a garbage dump!” It is noted that from 200 to 300 trucks with garbage arrive at the landfill every day. According to activists, in 2017 the design capacity of the landfill exceeded 20 times.
Corrected at 17.55. The original version of the news reported that activists allowed trucks with garbage from Moscow to be allowed into the landfill. In reality, the agreement only concerned garbage from Kolomna.
