The Children's Ombudsman criticized the Ministry of Transport's idea to ban children in strollers on the subway

Commissioner for Children's Rights Anna Kuznetsova criticized the intention of the Ministry of Transport to ban children in wheelchairs from the metro.

According to Kuznetsova, out of a stroller, children can get hurt in overcrowded cars, “fall and get lost in the crowd,” and also accidentally get off the train. On the platforms, they are also in "serious danger".

The measures proposed by the Ministry of Transport are “redundant and contrary to common sense,” the Ombudsman believes . “They, at a minimum, will create inconvenience for parents with young children, and at the maximum, they will violate the constitutional rights of citizens to freedom of movement,” she said.

• On April 19, the Ministry of Transport submitted for public discussion a draft of uniform rules for using the subway in Russia. The document, in particular, proposes to prohibit passengers from transporting children in prams “in a train car, on escalators, stations and interstation crossings.”
• The proposed rules also require passengers to give up their seats to passengers with children, people with disabilities and pregnant women.
