Poroshenko proposed depriving Crimeans who voted in Russia of Ukrainian citizenship

In Ukraine, it was proposed to deprive the residents of Crimea, who received a Russian passport and voted in the presidential elections in March 2018, of Ukrainian citizenship. This initiative was made by the President of the country Petro Poroshenko.

According to the text of the document, whether a particular citizen was accepted or not in the elections will be determined using entries in the registers of state bodies, as well as on the basis of publications in the media.

Those Crimeans who used a Russian passport to enter or leave the territory of Ukraine may also be left without a Ukrainian passport.

“In the conditions of the hybrid war of the Russian Federation against our state, Russian special services use the illegal registration of Ukrainian citizenship in order to create legal opportunities to destabilize the situation, aggravate the criminogenic situation in Ukraine, conduct reconnaissance and subversion and terrorist and sabotage activities on the territory of our state,” explains in the document the reasons for the tightening of measures.

Recall that residents of Crimea began to issue Russian passports in March 2014. According to the latest data, they received about 1.8 million people. At the same time, the FMS did not require Ukrainian passports to be handed over.
