The ECHR awarded 300 thousand euros to activists of the National Bolshevik Party

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) awarded 24 activists of the National Bolshevik Party (NBP) compensation in the amount of 12.5 thousand rubles each. This is reported by Interfax with reference to the lawyer Dmitry Agranovsky.

The court found that Russia had violated the activists' rights to freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and a fair trial.

• In December 2005, the Tverskoy Court of Moscow sentenced 39 NBP protesters to terms ranging from one and a half to three and a half years in prison. The court found all of them guilty of participating in mass riots (part 2 of article 212 of the Criminal Code). Only 24 out of 39 convicts applied to the ECtHR.
• According to the prosecution, in December 2004 NBP activists staged mass riots in the presidential information administration and thus prevented the reception staff from performing their duties.
