The share of Google in Runet decreased after blocking Telegram

On Monday, April 23, the share of Google in the Russian Internet segment decreased to 42.4%(April 22 - 44.1%, April 21 - 45.9%), and the share of Yandex, on the contrary, increased to 52.4%(April 22 - 52%, April 21 - 50%), according to Liveinternet.ru.

Context

Roskomnadzor has been blocking Telegram in Russia since April 16. To remain affordable to Russian users, Telegram constantly changes the IP addresses used, using the cloud services of Google and Amazon.

• On weekends, users began to complain about problems with access to Google services in Russia. Later Roskomandzor said that he blocked those IP addresses of the search engine, which were used by the messenger to bypass locks.
• On Monday, users reported that they are experiencing problems when using many Google services in Russia, including the Google.com page, translator, cloud storage of Google Drive, Google Play, Gmail, YouTube and the re: captcha service. However, Roskandzor later said that the IP addresses of the last five services were not included in the list of prohibited sites.
