What languages are spoken in the north of our planet? Who speaks them today and how did their ancestors interact with each other in the past? How did these contacts affect the native languages of the north and the Russian language? Are the language contacts we see in the north unique compared to those described by linguists in other parts of the world? We are trying to answer all these questions within the framework of the project “Dynamics of Language Contacts in the Circumpolar Region”, based at the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
