Bloomberg is going to introduce a paid subscription as early as May, although this period may still be postponed, sources at the agency told BI. Whether all content or only part of it will be paid is not yet clear.
Since last summer, Boomberg has already introduced paid subscriptions to Bloomberg Businessweek. The reader can open only four articles per month for free, for unlimited online access it is proposed to pay $65 per year.
At the same time, Bloomberg plans to introduce a new site that will look more “businesslike,” BI sources add. The launch of the current site with a striking design in 2015 caused controversy, and its creator, one of the most famous American digital media managers, Joshua Topolsky, was fired a few months after the launch.

Context

Most of the major Western business media have been operating on a paid subscription basis for a long time. There are no free publications on the websites of the Financial Times and The Wall Street Journal at all.
On The New York Times and The Washington Post websites, you can read a limited number of publications for free, then a paid subscription is also required. The New York Times revenue from paid subscriptions in 2017 was more than $1 billion.
