The total amount of funds that the Russians store in the offshores of Great Britain - in the British Virgin and the Kaiman Islands - is 34 billion pounds, that is, about $ 47 billion. This was reported on Sunday by The Times with reference to the data of the British NGO Global Witness, which explores human rights and corruption in the countries of natural resources.

Most of Russian money - 30 billion pounds, that is, more than $ 41 billion - is stored in the British Virgin Islands.

The total amount of money placed by the Russians in offshore is five of the one that Russians stored in the metropolis.

In general, over the past 10 years, 110 billion pounds have passed through the British Virgin and Kaymanov Islands, or more than $ 150 billion, from Russia. Thus, Britain is the second most popular after the Cyprus is the direction of Russian offshore investments.

In March, British Prime Minister Teresa May promised to freeze all Russian assets in the kingdom in response to the poisoning of the former GRU Colonel Sergei Skripal and his daughter Julia. The British prime minister accuses Moscow of a crime.

On April 26, it became known that a bill was introduced to the parliament of Britain on the disclosure of the names of persons who own assets in the offshore of the kingdom. According to the bill, this information should become public until the end of 2020. It was noted that the document was directed against the Russian oligarchs.

Voting under the bill will be held on Tuesday, May 1. It is expected that the initiative will be supported by conservatives, Labor and the National Party of Scotland.

In the metropolis, the reform of tax shelters was held by David Cameron in 2013. Since then, the kingdom publishes a register of beneficiaries of assets hidden through one-day firms. However, the law was not widespread to the overseas territories: the government referred to the fact that there are its own parliaments in the colonies and London could not adopt laws for them. Critics objected that in the past this principle was violated, for example, when the death penalty was canceled in all territories of the kingdom.
