1898. Golda Meir was born

120 years ago, on May 3, 1898, Golda Meir, Prime Minister of Israel in 1969-1974, was born in Kyiv. In 1948-1949, she was the first ambassador of Israel in Moscow - this was in the midst of an anti -Semitic campaign against "rootless cosmopolitans."

In October 1973, Israel defeated the so -called Judgment Day war with Egypt and Syria, but the failures of the initial period of this war and the relatively large losses of the Israelis prompted Gold Meir to resign from the post of head of government. She argued: "A leader who does not think about before sending his people to fight, is not worthy of being a leader."
