Appeal to extend the arrest of Oyub Titiev

On May 3, the Supreme Court of Chechnya will consider the appeal of the extension of the arrest of the head of the Chechen branch of the Memorial human rights center Oyub Titiev, against which the case of drugs is fabricated.

On April 25, the judge of the Staropromyslovsky district court of Grozny Vakhtang Gorchkhanov extended the arrest of Titiev until June 9. At the hearing, the senior investigator of the 2nd department for the investigation of especially important crimes of the Chechen administration, I. Khadukaev, said that the political prisoner must be left in the pre-trial detention center, since he could run away: at the place of registration "there is no home (home ownership)," and Titiev’s relatives left Chechnya. In February, the Kadyrovites demolished the Titiev’s house in the Chechen village of Kurchali along with the houses of 36 of his neighbors.

The 60-year-old Titiev was detained by the Kadyrovites on January 9 and was arrested two days later. Politzeku was charged with part 2 of Article 228 of the Criminal Code (illegal overalls of drugs on a large scale), which provides for 3 to 10 years in a colony. According to the plot of the case, Titiev was in 180 grams of marijuana in the car.

Initially, the OMVD in the Kurchaloevsky district of Chechnya was engaged in the case. In early February, the investigation was transferred to the Chechen Directorate of the TFR .

The human rights activist refuses to plead guilty and insists that the drugs were thrown into his car during the inspection of the operatives of the threat of the Kurchaloevsky OMVD Mandzhikov and Magomades.
