The accident occurred at 9:45 Moscow time above the Mediterranean Sea, when the plane was gaining height after taking off from the Khmeimim air base used by the Russian VKS.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the plane was not fired. The bird could get into the engine of the fighter, the department said.

To date, Russia has already lost seven aircraft and five helicopters in Syria.
