Czech President Milos Zeman said that the country was developing and testing the Novichok substance, which poisoned former GRU officer Sergei Skripal.
Zeman stated this during an interview with the Czech TV channel Barrandov, iDNES reports . The President said that the amount of poisonous substance produced was relatively small, and after testing it was destroyed. Zeman referred to the opinion of military intelligence, while according to the report of the Czech Security and Information Service, the tested substance was not “Novichok”.
“My conclusion is this: we had Novichok produced and tested, albeit in small quantities, and then it was destroyed. We know when and where it happened, and it would be hypocrisy on our part to pretend that nothing like this happened in our country,” Zeman added.
Earlier, the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called the Czech Republic one of the most likely sources of origin of Novichok, after which Zeman ordered to find out whether the substance could be produced and stored in industrial or scientific institutions of the country.
